DALTON SLOANS LATE TRANSITIONAL PALEO 11,000 BP THRU THE EARLY ARCHAIC 7,000 BP
This is an artistic representation of a late transitional Paleo point. Experts place it at 13,000 to 9,000 years old. Originally named in honor of Governor Dalton of Missouri, who collected and studied the entire series of Dalton points. No other point has as many variances as the Dalton. Daltons can be fluted or unfluted and bearing some form of serration. Distribution ranges from the East Coast to the Rocky Mountains and the Gulf Coast to Canada. A Dalton Sloan is believed to be a pre-form of Dalton. It is usually found in caches, which may support this speculation. However, some believe that the point called Pike County is made from a pre form Sloans Dalton, as the transition from Dalton Sloans to that point requires very little work.
